August 19th, 2006

On August 20th I will be performing solo at Arlington Park Race Track in Arlington Heights, Illinois. I love gig's like this, ... it's not your everyday festival or concert or night club gig. It makes you think out of the box a bit. At this event, most people are not there to see me, ... they are there to watch and bet on the ponies. I am an added attraction, a "side show" to the big race. It's an outdoor gig, so at least I'll get some fresh air, ... well, ... fresh air with some road-apple-scent added for a "real smell" factor.

I perform 5, 15-minute sets between the last 5 out of 9 races for the day. This event is very close to my heart. It's for a new organization called "We Do Care" and all this organization does is make sure our great armed service people know that American's do care about them and their service to our great country.

The organizer of this event is a great guy named Dirk Beveridge, president of the Beveridge Consulting Group. Dirk's heart is in the right place. He spends his time and money organizing events throughout our country showing support for our Armed Forces. Dirk is also sponsoring two events that myself and the 101st Rock Division will be at; September 9th near the train station in Barrington and September 10th near Soldier Field in Chicago.

Helping Dirk out are many great and caring people including Dee Dee Gallagher from Bataille Academy of Danse of Barrington and Mt. Prospect. Her dancers will be performing between he 1st and 3rd races. Between the 4th race there will be a military speaker, Sgt. Kitzrow.

I was thinking, since this is a concert at the race track, and there will be about 10,000 race fans there, I may want to change a few of the tunes for the day.

Of course I will salute our great troops with some U2, Tom Petty, The Beatles, Toby Keith, Brave Warrior and others from the "101st Rock Division" set list, ... but maybe the last set should include "A Horse With No Name" or "Can Do" from "Guy's and Doll's," remember the lyric?; "I've got the horse right here, his name is Paul Revere and the weatherman says that the weather is clear, can do, can do ..." Maybe something from The Who, "You Better, You Better, You Bet," or "Whip It," by Devo, or that old Country favorite "The Winner Loses All." Sinatra music is always great to hear at the track. How about "Luck Be A Lady Tonight." Any other suggestions out there in blog land?

I'd better stick with what works because people may just not understand my sometimes twisted sense of humor. I'll keep supporting the troops, ... that always works for me.
