September 2nd, 2006
I just received an email from two of the most wonderful people on this planet. A few "Journal entries" ago, I wrote about Roy and Georgette Frank. Their son, Phillip Frank, paid the ultimate price for American freedom in Iraq in April of 2004. Our band entertained Phillip and his fellow Marines in February of 2004 in Baghdad. Phillip was always a hero in the Frank family, but now the world knows about him and his courageous leadership skills in Iraq. Phil sacrificed himself to protect his fellow Marines.
When I was performing at Arlington Park a few weeks ago Georgette took the beautiful 2' x 2' photo of Phil that the Franks display on their tent, and danced with it while I'll performed Toby Keith's "American Soldiers." That act brought tears to my eye's as Georgette danced with Phil, her loving and brave son, two years after his death.
So many times we hear about Cindy Sheehan, who's brave son Casey also paid the ultimate price. (Remember, just like all the troops serving in our Armed Forces, Casey volunteered for service in the Army.) In my opinion, Cindy seems to want, ... to crave, publicity for herself and her cause.
According to published reports, Cindy has yet to visit her brave son's grave, ... further more, she never signed a form that will mark his grave with a cross, the way most "Christian" soldiers graves are marked at Arlington National Cemetery. Cindy wants to meet the president, probably to give him a piece of her mind, ... but she already did that when Casey's flag draped casket was flown back to America, ... President Bush did in fact consoled her and other "brave warrior" parents that day.
Now I read, ... Cindy is the person who "AWOL soldiers" go to when they just can't find the courage to return to the duties they personally signed-up and volunteered for!
Shame on you Sheehan! I feel you are a disgrace to all the brave American service men and women who have defended life, liberty and the pursuit of freedom in America for over 200 years and completed their contract with the Armed Services, ... AND God bless you Cindy for bringing a brave young man, your hero son, Casey into this world.
Below I have posted the letter I received from the Franks; This is how the Franks choose to honor their son:
Dearest Joe,
What a wonderful website you have! Thank you for your insight and caring heart. As we read your postings it was as if we were sitting over a cup of coffee with you and getting to know each other.
When you performed at Arlington Park we were moved by your love and commitment for our troops. Thank you for taking time from your family to go into harms way to bring our troops your talent and support. We know how much it means to them.
When you sang "American Soldier" at Arlington Park, Georgette wanted to put a face to the words of the song. The American people need to see the individual Soldier, Sailor, Marine or Airmen. Sometimes our troops become groups of people, numbers and not individuals. Your song "Brave Warrior" touched our hearts and truly honored your cousin Ryan.
You are a very special man Joe, we are blessed to have met you. You possess "The Heart Of A Marine".
Looking forward to seeing you at We Do Care's Freedom Fest in Barrington on Sept 9.
Semper Family,
Roy and Georgette
Proud Gold Star Parents of
LCPL Phil Frank, USMC KIA 4/8/04 Iraq
In the above letter the Franks have complimented me beyond what I deserve. I am a guy with a guitar who chooses to honor firefighters and soldiers, that's all. I love what I do.
Please come to the Family Freedom Festival in Barrington, Illinois at the Metra train station on Saturday, September 9th, (noon - 10:00 PM) and meet the Franks. I know you'll hug them, thank them for their son Phil and fall in love with them the same way everyone who meets them does.
