All of us with the 101st Rock Division and Joe Cantafio.com wish to offer the family of Chicago Firefighter, Bill Grant the deepest heartfelt sympathy. Bill was a true American hero, a great husband and father and will be missed by all Chicagoans.

Bill (age 44,) came from a Family of Firefighters. Assigned to truck 51 in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, his older brother (CFD) is assigned to to Truck 50, and his Father is a retired Chicago Firefighter. Bill was going into his 21st year as a Chicago Firefighter.

No one will ever forget Bill's heroic action a few years ago when he carried an elderly woman down his truck's ladder out of a burning building and saved her life. As every Chicagoan was so proud to call him our own that day, we are all equally deeply saddened at his untimely death yesterday in the line of duty, serving the people of Chicago.

Bill Grant, may you rest in peace. Your actions throughout your life remind all of us that real heroes are not people who can run fast or jump high. Real heroes are men and women who put their lives on the line everyday for their fellow man.

"... Greater love has no man than this; that he lay down his life for his fellow man." (John 15:13)

                               Firefighters Prayer

When I am called to duty,
                             Whenever flames may rage,
Give me strength to save a life
                                  Whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child
                                     Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
                                   The horror of that fate.

                                    Enable me to be alert
                              And hear the weakest shout
                                  And quickly and efficiently
                                        Put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling
To give the best in me
                                To guard my every neighbor,
                                      protect his property.

And if according to Your will
I must answer death's last call
                             Bless with Your protecting hand
                                     My family one and all.
