Marching To A New Drum! This entry was posted on May 7, 2007 9:44 PM and is filed under music and the troops. I received an email today from my friend Mike Dorfman. Mike owns Trick Drums, one of the newest and most innovative drum manufacturers in the world. Mike let me know that our new drum kit is built and is featured on the front page of his website! Some of you may remember that a few months ago, I went to Mike and asked him to build a drum kit for my band, The 101st Rock Division and our tour. Mike understood exactly what we are trying to accomplish with our tour; 100% support for the brave men and women who serve out nation. Mike's dad, Allen Dorfman was a hero during WWII. He fought with Carlson's Raiders, probably the first Marine Recon Group in the Pacific. Well, I am proud to say that Mike's work is complete. It took more planning that we originally thought. At first we were going to go with a neat "camouflage" covering on the drums with a few special details. But after our meeting, Mike said no! Mike wanted something very special, something unlike any drum set ever built. Something he could be very proud of and that his father would be proud of. The results had me crying my eyes out. The drums are truly unbelievable. They are the most patriotic works of art you could ever imagine. There are a total of Six drums. The base, or "kick" drum is a collage of Americana, featuring the bald eagle, The Declaration of Independence, Gettysburg and other memorials. The other five drums are dedicated to each of the five branches of service, Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy and The Coast Guard. On the "Marine" drum, Mike and his team of professionals included a photo of my cousin, Ryan Joseph Cantafio, USMC, who was killed in Iraq, Thanksgiving Day, 2004. I can't begin to explain what it means to me and to my family to have Ryan's spirit live on and go on tour with us over the next few years. I invite you all to visit Trick Drums' website to view the drum set. Click on www.trickdrums.com After you see this wonderful drum kit, you can write to Mike Dorfman at MRDTRICK@aol.com Rock on Mike!
