This blog posting is being posted at the request of Marine Mom, Pam Bird. Pam's son Greg is serving in Iraq this Mothers Day.

Pam writes:

Dear son or daughter:

It's Mother's day here in the states and a lot of you are not able to call your Mother and let her know that you love her today.  That's okay, we know you do!  This is for YOU today.

The minute you came into our lives, whether by birth, as an addition to our families by second marriage, or adoption, you have been our pride and joy! We always have high hopes for our children, but none could match the knowledge that you would serve or even lay down your own life for your country.

Some of you are parents already and know that the hardest thing to do is let go of your own children and let them live the life that they want, others of you have yet to find that out!  I remember the day you (my son Greg) came to me with papers to sign so you could join the military.  I fought you for several months, until I saw the determination in your eyes and the love for your country in your heart.  After much prayerful consideration I signed the papers for you.  I know in my heart that you are doing the right thing for yourself, but most importantly, for your country.

As parents, you will find there are many things that make you so proud of your kids that you will almost bust your buttons, but nothing compares to the day you graduated from boot camp and we got to see you for the first time as a totally different person than the one we raised.  You have matured so far beyond your years, but somewhere deep inside resides that kid I know and love so well.  Never forget your roots!  They got you to the point you are at today!

In closing, please remember that we are still here for you and love you beyond measure.  You will always be our "baby".  So for this Mother's Day, I say THANK YOU for the pleasure of getting to be your Mom.

With all our love,

Mom and America

Thanks Pam, ... Happy Mothers Day.
