For Your Information;

You may remember the story of Steven May, the Marine from Houston, Texas who was wounded in Iraq with 10 other troops. All 11 of the troops survived, the only casualties were the suicide-terrorist's, (or in this case, "the dumb asses."

Steven's dad, Michael May wrote a three part story titled; "A Marines Story" and sent it to me; it was published on this blog. Steven is in surgery today. Michael has updated this incredible story.

Michael writes:

Joe,

Steven's surgery today (already begun) has just been up-graded and extended in it's estimated duration. He is now having an All-Day surgery. They are operating on the front and back of his torso and installing a cage system around the spine for total support, as opposed to a scrape - cut - grind - fusion.

The Doc says Steven should be able to be mobile enough to make the plane trip out to Twenty-nine Palms, come the day of Homecoming. We hope this to be the case.

Will keep you posted -----------------

For Your Information
;

Illinois Freshman Congressman, Peter Roskam is in Iraq, doing what he promised, ... supporting the troops.

Earlier this week, I had lunch with Brian McCarthy, who heads up Peter's office in Bloomingdale. Brian said Peter will publish a full report when he returns next week. I will publish that report on this blog.

Ooo Rah Peter, ... keep making us proud and keep supporting our incredible troops.

For Your Information;

Marching to a new beat, "Joe Cantafio & the 101st Rock Division" (that's us,) will debut our new drum kit August 2 in St. Germain, Wisconsin. The drum kit was built by Trick Drums of Schaumburg (check out their link on this website and view the drum kit) and is the brainchild of owner Mike Dorfman whose father was a highly decorated WWII Marine.

The estimated cost for this drum-set exceeds $30,000.00. After looking at it for hours upon hours, I will say, it is a work of art, ... a master piece. The history of American military fills every square inch of the six drums.

Mike told me that Modern Drummer Magazine will feature the drums as "Drum Kit Of The Month" in an up coming issue. The drums are getting more press that us!!!!! LOL

For Your Information;

Blog reader, contributer, and dear friend Cheryl Castanedo welcomed home her son-in-law and hero Sgt. Manny Garcia, US Army. Manny is home for a 21-day-leave from Iraq. It's also the very first meeting of Manny and his newest daughter Mia. (does that stand for missing-in-action at birth??? lol)

Cheryl, daughter and wife, Kelly Garcia, and Kelly's husband and hero-Manny, plan on being at St. Zachary's Augustfest (567 W Algonquin Rd, Des Plaines, IL) to see myself and the 101st Rock Division, Sunday, August 5th at 7:30 PM, and to see fellow Army soldier and hero Darrin Domko perform with us. Darrin will sing background vocals and be featured on "God Bless The USA," "Crocodile Rock," and "American Soldier."
