September 11th ... Six Years LaterThis entry was posted on September 10, 2007 8:16 PM and is filed under Freedom. The world changed six-years ago. The way we look at the simple things in life are different. Six years later we accept the fact that we must take our shoes off before we board a plane, or the fact that we must show up to airports two and three hours before a flight, and rightly so. We must be checked and scaned when entering large city buildings. You can't bring a drink or any liquid onto planes and you can't travel outside of America without a passport. Coward/bin Laden is still out there threatening us from his cave. I do believe his same, rehashed, hatred seen on his Death-To-The-American-Way-Of-Life-Videos, are more like a nauseating mosquito than a real threat to most of us, however, I'll bet those 3,000 families of the people murdered on September 11, 2001, listen a bit closer than the rest of us. I believe Homeland Security does have our back. I believe there would have been more attacks in our country if Homeland Security, the FBI, the CIA and police departments didn't work together. Team work is a good thing. MSMBC is going to air their original broadcast from 6-years ago at 9:00 AM. I'm not sure I can watch that, although I do believe we should all be reminded of September 11th daily. Bravo MSMBC! I get chills when I see those planes smashing into the World Trade Center, and I'll stay up late and watch the History Channel or Discovery or any other channel that feature programs about September 11th. When I see the footage of the North Tower burning I'll think of my friends at Canter - Fitzgerald, and the 5-firefighters who's families I got to know in 2001 - 2002. After September 11th, 2001, I had the honor of meeting American heroes from FDNY Engine Company 55. I toured the country with them in an attempt to give them a break from the grueling work at Ground Zero, show them how appreciated they were and hopefully take their minds off all the death and horrible destruction in their city, ... what I didn't know was that it would help heal some of them, ... me included. Today I'll think of my friend Cliff Russell, whose brother Stephen, an FDNY Firefighter, was killed on September 11th. Cliff came to Iraq with us to thank the troops for avenging the death of his brother. We titled our first tour to Iraq "FDNY Firefighter Stephen P Russell Memorial War Tour." I still proudly wear my tour-jacket every once in a while. I'll call FDNY firefighter John Olivero, a man who is about 10-years younger than me and who is one of my heroes in life. (that is a very short list) Johnny "O" is all class with the heart of a lion. I'll bring donuts to the Barrington Police and Fire Departments just to let them know I appreciate everything they do for my daughters and myself. At night I'll be performing in Naperville after I attend the 6:00 PM ceremony at Naperville's September 11th Memorial. I'll be singing at Quigley's tonight at 7:00 PM in a "friend raiser" for my friend, Ground Zero Firefighter Vincent Forras and his Gear Up Foundation. The Downtown Naperville Rotary Club is sponsoring the event. Ground Zero survivor, Joe Dittmar will be with me and share some of his amazing story; escaping death from the South Tower by seconds. After 6-years, I am glad America makes a "big deal" out of this day. We need to remember that this enemy is still out there and still wants more American death. Our enemy want's to take over the world. God bless all New Yorkers who took a bullet for America that day. I never really liked New Yorkers before September 11th, ... I love every one of them today. God bless our troops who continue the fight. Have a peaceful day. Please, never forget September 11th, and what it really means to most American's. CommentsDisplay comments as (Linear | Threaded)
