Peter Roskam Fights for the Middle and Little Guy and Keeps Housing Affordable

Washington DC - Congressman Peter J. Roskam today issued the following statement after voting against the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007 (H.R. 2895):
"This misguided legislation will impose what amounts to a harsh tax on lower and middle income families of the 6th Congressional District of Illinois, impeding access to affordable housing.
In the midst of this country's efforts to stabilize the housing market in the aftermath of some subprime lending practices, this bill will essentially increase costs for consumers and divert funds from the Federal Housing Administration that could otherwise benefit prospective homeowners.
I understand how fuel costs, healthcare costs and housing pressures are increasing the financial pressure on Chicagoland families. We must ensure that these homeowners are not squeezed further in this current housing market.
I will continue to oppose tax increases on the hard-working families and businesses of my district."
