Kirk Morris ShinesThis entry was posted on January 11, 2008 7:10 AM and is filed under Politics. It's about time someone sees that Kirk Morris is the best person for the job. I have known Kirk for a few years and I can't help but realize, he is the most qualified, "normal" person in the race for US Congress in the 8th District of Illinois. The thing that sets Kirk apart from the competition is the fact that he walks the walk. The others just seem to talk the talk. Kirk's a "do-er" who has accomplished many incredible things before ever considering politics. Arnold promotes himself as "the creative conservative," but that label could apply to all three Republican candidates who offer innovative ideas on a number of issues. Greenberg is receiving considerable support from area and national Republican Party leaders who want him to spend his family fortune to target Bean, but our endorsement goes to Morris -- the Republican candidate who would be the most effective spokesman for typical 8th District residents' concerns. Like his opponents, Morris emphasizes preventing tax increases, controlling government spending and securing our nation's borders. He stands out, however, because of his extensive volunteer work and experience on environmental issues. Morris is a forest preserve nature guide, the vice president of an alternative fuels conversion company and a member of the lieutenant governor's Alternate Fuels Development Committee. Morris has become a knowledgeable advocate for veterans and their families since his U.S. Marine son was killed in Iraq in 2004. Yet, he is not running an emotion-driven campaign for sympathy votes. In fact, during his Pioneer Press endorsement interview, Morris did not mention his son's death. Instead, he detailed his views on a variety of issues, including his belief that experienced military commanders -- not politicians -- should determine the course of action in Iraq. Morris' campaign lacks Greenberg's vast financial resources, but we think he would be the party's best option for the Nov. 4 General Election. CommentsDisplay comments as (Linear | Threaded)
