Al Gore; Environmentalist, Advocate-Pawn or Con-Man?This entry was posted on February 24, 2008 6:16 PM and is filed under Global Warming. I have never believed in "global warming." When I first heard this term, I listened to both sides of the argument and didn't come to a conclusion until I froze my ass off for three winters in a row. I tend to believe that the earth goes through constant cycles, and weather is out of our hands and determined by whatever goes on in the Heavens. Al Gore made a strong case with his Oscar winning performance last year, but I still didn't buy the "global warming" theory. I remember writing a blog or two during a sub-zero February last year, and I'm saying it again now, as my teeth are chattering from the cold ... I believe "global warming" is the advocates way of scaring us, and nothing more. I love watching The History Channel and The Discovery Channel, and I have watched well-produced programs claiming both sides of this argument. I tend to believe the earth is constantly changing and we have mini-ice ages sometimes and we have warmer winters sometimes. I believe we are going through a mini-ice age now and I never believed the North Pole was melting. WELLLLLLLLLL, now, scientific data from the past few years seems to back up my beliefs ... read this! LONDON, ENGLAND: New Data Shows Ice Is Back! Feb. 18 report in the London Daily Express showed that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than usual, challenging the global warming crusaders and buttressing arguments of skeptics who deny that the world is undergoing global warming. The Daily express recalls the photograph of polar bears clinging on to a melting iceberg which has been widely hailed as proof of the need to fight climate change and has been used by former Vice President Al Gore during his "Inconvenient Truth" lectures about mankind’s alleged impact on the global climate. Gore fails to mention that the photograph was taken in the month of August when melting is normal. Or that the polar bear population has soared in recent years. As winter roars in across the Northern Hemisphere, Mother Nature seems to have joined the ranks of the skeptics. As the Express notes, scientists are saying the northern Hemisphere has endured its coldest winter in decades, adding that snow cover across the area is at its greatest since 1966. The newspaper cites the one exception — Western Europe, which had, until the weekend when temperatures plunged to as low as -10 C in some places, been basking in unseasonably warm weather. Around the world, vast areas have been buried under some of the heaviest snowfalls in decades. Central and southern China, the United States, and Canada were hit hard by snowstorms. In China, snowfall was so heavy that over 100,000 houses collapsed under the weight of snow. Jerusalem, Damascus, Amman, and northern Saudi Arabia report the heaviest falls in years and below-zero temperatures. In Afghanistan, snow and freezing weather killed 120 people. Even Baghdad had a snowstorm, the first in the memory of most residents. I guess even Al Gore will have to start turning up the heat in his home in Tennessee, and you can bet others will be turning up the heat on Al Gore soon. |
