Letters From The FrontlineThis entry was posted on April 29, 2008 8:10 AM and is filed under Heroes. A few days ago I posted a special blog asking Americans to send cards, letters, care packages, or whatever they could send, to 15-Marines serving in Iraq, who had not received anything during their deployment. So far, the response has been overwhelming. My only disappointment is that I will not be there in two weeks when cards, letters and care packages start arriving. I wish I could be a scorpion on their tents (their version of a "fly on the wall") when hundreds of packages and letters arrive for these outstanding Americans. I requested this blogs readers to send items to my cousin, PFC Zachary Fulgenzi, US Army, serving in Iraq, a few months ago. I don't know how to thank you all for taking this kid under your wings and spending your money to make sure Zach was taken care of, but I did get tears in my eyes when I received Zach's latest email. Zach works in the Green Zone, and with his job, he really can say much about where and what he does. I will tell you, it is very dangerous. With Zach moving from base to base, it sometimes takes him a month or two to catch up with his mail. With that said ... Zach writes; Hey Joe~ Sorry it has been too long since I have sent any word to you, in fact I have been waiting to get back to a lot of people. Anyway, I wanted to let you know I have been getting an ass-load of packages from the Yellow Ribbon Support Group (care packages,) cards, letters and emails. Some of your Army and Marine officers have written and I really don't know how to respond to them. Seeing an email from a Marine Col. or an Army General sends a chill down my spine, how awesome. Seriously, my buddies are wondering what the heck is going on, haha! I have been getting more than my fare share so my friends have been getting a lot of them because I just am stock pilled. We share everything here. I guess what I am trying to say is, thank you! haha! It means so much to us to know that Americans care about us enough to write letters, make cards and send care packages. WE LOVE THEM. Alright, well I just wanted to shoot you a line and say hello. We are all looking forward to seeing you and your band soon, I can't wait to see a friendly face (yours) here in Baghdad. That will be so cool. I have to get back to work. Love, your cuz Zach Thank you all for taking care of Zach and his Army buddies. I speak for his father, Vince, when I say we love you all. Yellow Ribbon Support Group from Palatine, Illinois (Mac, Pat, Lisa and crew,) we love you very much. As you can see from Zach's letter, it means the world to get a piece of home. I know that is how the 15-Marines will respond in about two-weeks at mail-call. God bless you all. You can send Zach an email at; zachary.fulgenzi@us.army.mil |
