Why American Veterans Should Be Honored

There is not one American today who has not benefited from the service of our Veterans.

If you live in America, thank a Vet. Our Veterans have fought and died for all of us. The freedom we enjoy in our great country has been earned by our Veterans. Their hard work, determination, and selflessness paid for our freedom. If you don't believe that, you weren't paying attention in history class.

If you have a job in America, thank a Vet. Our free-capitalist system is protected by our Troops/Veterans. Because of their sacrifice, it is every American's right to have the opportunity to legally succeed in business.

If you don't have a job, yet live on welfare in America, thank a Vet. Out Troops protect, fight, and died to ensure all laws and rights created by and voted on by our politicians are protected.

If you live in America and have ever burned, stepped-on, or desecrated the America Flag in defiance ... thank a Vet. Yes our Veterans even protect the rights of the human-scum who dare to desecrate our great flag; the same flag they were willing to die for and the same flag that hundreds of thousands of Veterans before them died for.

From Valley Forge to Gettysburg ... from Flanders Field to Normandy ... from Iwo Jima to the Chosin Reservoir ... from Da Nang to Saigon ... from Panama to Kuwait ... from Kabul to Baghdad and every place in between, our Veterans have always answered the call to fight, serve and protect the American way of life and all of our rights.

On Veterans Day, November 11th, and every day of the year, when you see a Veteran or if you know a Veteran ... just tell him or her, "Thank You." That's all it takes, and they'll know exactly what you are thanking them for.

Remember; a Veteran is an American who wrote a blank check, made payable to The United States of America for the amount up to, and including their life!

November 10 - I want to wish all Marines a Happy Birthday. Since 1775 you have served and protected us. God bless you all. A special toast goes out to Col. Dennis Arinello, Marty Smith III,  Ed Bartt, Joe Jones, Jim Bender, Lou Ferrante, Derrick VanNatta,  GySgt Eric “Jimmy” Jazak, Sgt. Mike Forras, Kirk Morris, Georgette and Roy Frank, the Wisconsin Cantafio's ... enjoy a piece of cake for me.

I will be traveling through the great state of Texas from November 10th through the 18th. I will entertain at the DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston on Veterans Day. That same evening I am scheduled to have dinner with Michael and Julia May and their friend Lisa. Some might remember Michael and Julia's son Steven May from a three-part story in this blog titled "A Marines Story." Steven was one of 9 Troops that were the target of suicide bomber attack in April of 2007 ... all 9 lived ... bomber died. Steven went through months of surgeries and therapy and has since retired from his beloved Marine Corp with many medals ... he is also playing lots of golf these days ... that's right, with a spin that was twisted and broken 18-months ago, and after hearing the possibility that he would never walk again, Steven made a full recovery ... and the bomber, last time they checked, was still dead!

On the 12th I am scheduled to visit the Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburk, Texas and later in the day, meet with Lt. Gen. Joe Weber, USMC (ret.) about a museum project I am currently working on with Tony Webber (no relation) of Southwest Museum Design.

On the 13th I am entertaining at The 24th Annual Phil Garner Golf Tournament in Houston. I will be teamed up with Gen. Weber, Tony Webber and Col Denny Arinello. (Am I in trouble or what!) I found out that two Houston Astros will be joining our group. Arinello and I don't golf, so we will caddy and drive the golf carts. The Col. informed me that there will be cigars and beer available as well ... Lord, pray for us!

After fun in the Texas sun, I will open the evening by singing the National Anthem and after dinner I will perform a mini-concert. I'm sure with all the drinking, and the fact that I am a die-hard Chicago White Sox Fan (Sox humiliated the Astros in their only World Series Appearance in 2005) I'll have everyone's undivided attention, however, I will not be wearing any of my White Sox merchandise at any time while in Texas. After the event I will be driving to San Marcos, Texas. Please say a little prayer for me as you lay your heads down to rest as I have no idea how to get to San Marcos.

I am going to San Marcos to work with Jerry Payne. Jerry is a Vietnam Veteran and was voted American Veterans of the Year in 1998. Jerry is the President and CEO of The United States Entertainment Force (USEF) and is on the Board of Directors of The USO. Years agao Jerry produced USO shows that featured Bob Hope himself! He was in Chicago a few weeks ago and we became friends very quickly. I also baptized him as an official Chicagoan with Gino's East pizza, Chicago style hot dogs and an Italian beef-combo (sausage and beef) sandwich.

Jerry is producing The World United Music Festival in San Marcos, from November 14 - 16. For information on you can participate or attend this huge event where over 150 bands will be performing, or to read more about this awesome American, visit www.TheUSEF.org and check it out!

Joining us in San Marcos will be Charlie Gallagher and rock-legend Jamie Oldaker. Charlie and Jamie have produced 2 incredible CD's for their Voices from a Grateful Nation project. Charlie and Jamie were in Chicago a last week to discuss teaming up with Jerry and me to create an avenue to make our projects a success and fulfill our dreams by bringing them to our Troops.

Jamie has played drums with Eric Clapton, Bob Seger and Peter Frampton to name a few artist he has performed with and he has earned 24 Gold and Platinum Albums. He has also produced some of the biggest artists in Nashville including Brooks and Dunn.

Many ideas were bantered about during their two day stay in Chicago, and yes, they now love Gino's East pizza.

I hope we come away with "inked' agreements to marry our projects together. Imagine, three-501(c) (3) charitable organizations working together to make life better for our Troops and Veterans ... STAY TUNED!

      Deb,

Thanks so much for the sacrifice you have made to America ... your wonderful son and our hero, Derek.

As for Gino's East ... I think my favorite part of taking people there  is their reaction to the taste. I saw it your and Todd's eyes that night too. What a great time we had, one of my great summer memories.

God bless you both sweetie. You can bet that Derek's ultimate sacrifice to our country will always be cherished by me.

Love ya and hope to see you on the road soon,

      Joe
