I am honored to be participating in two great events this weekend.

Saturday, March 21, 2009 - beginning at 6:00 PM at Lincoln Inn Banquets, located at 1345 S. Batavia Ave. in Batavia, Illinois ... I have volunteered to be a "Celebrity Chef" (they must be hard-up for celebrities) in the Annual "50 MEN WHO COOK" dinner, that benefits Suicide Prevention Service.

For $50.00 per person, patrons get to sample items prepared by 50-men who can actually cook. I'll be joined by former sports stars, Mayors, firefighter and police officers, who make up a few of the 50 celebrity chefs.

I have been asked, "Come on Joe ... can you really cook? I don't believe it."

My answer is, trust me ... Just one little taste of my Italian red-meat sauce drizzled over the pasta that I am preparing, with a pinch of freshly grated Romano cheese, is worth the $50.00 alone. Remember, I am 100% Italian, we learn to cook before we can talk! Plus, I have raised my four healthy daughters for the past 10 1/2 years ... who do you think cooked for them?

Also, please remember "the cause;" the Suicide Prevention Service. We lose hundreds of American Veterans every week to suicide.  Instead of just writing them a check for $50.00 ... you get a meal that you'll never forget, a tax deducion and the feeling that you really helped save a life.

One person wrote to the nice people who organize this annual event and asked, "Why don't you ask Joe Cantafio to sing instead of cook?" ... So, I will sing a few tunes with a great acoustic band, "Tricoustic," and cook, so you get dinner and a show!

If you don't come to this event, and you find yourself home alone on Saturday night ... hungry, ... it's your own damn fault!

      Joanne,

My father was from Calabria and my mother is from Abruzzi. I'm telling you Joanne ... the red sauce is "killer" ... now, my creamy alfredo sauce with shrimp and sea scallops served over fettucini is to die-for! Are you hungry yet? LOL

      Hey Joe,

The pastor from my church (I grew up with him actually) is from Calabria and he goes back often to visit and says Mass there. What a coincidence.)

As for your sauces (or, as we like to call it, "gravy") sounds great. Ok, sounds like you could give a girl a challenge in the kitchen. What a novel concept -- a guy who can cook and is not afraid to show it AND can put on a show while doing it. LOL

I like diversity - -totally grew up with Italian food so I've branched out to Indian, Thai, Mexican, etc. cooking and Friday I made an awesome "Hot and Sour Shrimp Spaghetti" - -a recipe from your very own "Big Bowl" restaurant in Chicago. (ok, so, I cheated on my diet...)

Now, I just had a VERY healthy breakfast...so, why am I all of a sudden craving pasta? You just had me gain 10 pounds by reading your post...shame on you.

Glad to see you're back to being your old "healthy" self again. Have a great day!

      Joanne

      Joe,

I went to the 50menwhocancook website and could almost smell your sauce wafting in the air.

I also saw Mayor George Pradel's picture. What was he cooking - hotdogs????

You are one busy man. Must be nice to be independently wealthy to have all of this time to help others. Keep up the great work!

Ahhh Bob ... it was tasty. I'll have to make that for you and Linda sometime. I don't think George cooked, but his friend make small steaks! Yummy! I think George financed the meat, but he was there shaking everyone's hand and being the "good guy" he is!

Independently wealthy???? I wish. Thank God there are still some paying gig's around, plus the museum business is great these days.

We'll see you at Hines VA at the end of April, if not sooner.

        Joe
