Front Page of - THE US ARMY NEWS by Brandi Schiff/Courtney Wittmann, Office of the Chief of Public Affairs-Midwest ~ The 101st Rock Division Band, led by Joe Cantafio, is the first band to be featured on "The Midnight Stage" live music TV show in Palatine, IL. The show, taped on Thursday night, July 23, 2009, is a new concept featuring different bands every week. Hundreds of local Soldiers from the United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), Chicago Recruiting Battalion, participated as special guests in the audience. Lt. Col. Ed Box, Commander, Chicago Recruiting Battalion, and Command Sgt. Maj., Renee Dozier, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, awarded the USO of Illinois (one of the sponsors), and Cantafio with their battalion coin. “We wanted them to know how much we appreciate everything they do for the United States Army and our Soldiers,” said Box. In honor of 'The Year of the NCO,' Box and Dozier recognized their top NCO of the Year, Sgt. 1st Class, Tyrone Hayes, by having him on stage for the opening of the show. Tony Enrietto, President, USO of IL, also thanked Cantafio and the 101st Rock Division with Certificates of Appreciation for all the support they have shown the military, their families, and the USO of Illinois. Host of the show, retired Master Sgt. Jay Johnson, started the production off by introducing everyone and getting the crowd riled up for the taping. The show will air in late summer or early fall, first on WGN and then in 70 other markets.
